This afternoon our Big Buddies from Mrs. Smith's 3/4 class visited and decorated the gingerbread cookies we helped Miss Bertha bake yesterday. Our Big Buddies then read to us, taught us a pirate song and gave each student an activity book! We also performed our gingerbread song and poem for our buddies as a warm up for the assembly! Below you can see all the kindergartners in their gingerbread headbands about to head off to the gym. Stay tuned for more gingerbread activities next week!

We have spent December reading Gingerbread Man books, has your student talked about them at all? It's been a popular unit! Ask your child which book(s) they've like best! Today we had a special visitor, Miss Bertha from the kitchen! She helped us prepare gingerbread cookies to decorate with our big buddies before the assembly tomorrow! Check out all the pictures below, we had some very impressive bakers! This afternoon our class participated in Hour of Code week! Our school librarian, Ms Ginalski brought in the ipad cart and explained to the kindergartners:
So here the kindergartners are using the Lightbot App: For more information on Hour of Code visit: code.org/learn
Today we had our November 4 Winds! First the kindergartners watched a puppet show where they were told the three main types, or classes, or rock are sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous and the differences among them have to do with how they are formed. Then they got to check out various rocks and minerals including: granite, marble, slate, talc, sandstone, limestone, gneiss, pumice, pyrite, magnetite, hematite, quartz, amethyst, and mica. Hopefully your kindergartner shared with you that yesterday during PE a fire truck and some firefighters visited the school. The kindergartners were very excited, I didn't get to watch the presentation but Mrs. Jarvis snapped some pictures to share! Ask your child what they learned! This week we continued our discussion of how we are alike and different (we played a game called Just Like Me) and what makes us all special. This afternoon our big third and fourth grade buddies helped the kindergartners complete a craft then did some partner reading - check it out! Every week in the newsletter you will find the new word(s) the kindergartners are learning, by clicking here you can find the complete list (in the order the words are introduced)!
This week is our first week of Unit 2: Numbers to Ten
www.mathlearningcenter.org/sites/default/files/documents/family/PAR-BR0-U2.pdf One of our new letters this week is d, and so we began the discussion about how to tell lowercase b and d apart (as well as form them correctly). Above you can see the posters and wording I use and below you can find the formation we teach. Let me know if you have questions! We began our day with a whole kindergarten morning meeting in Ms Raymond's room, making a spider web as we greeted each other! And we finished the day with our spider party - the kiddos rotated through the three classrooms to make three spider crafts, and then we visited our big buddies! * Unfortunately, I had to leave before our spider party and time with our big buddies but I can't wait to hear all about it from the kids and if Mrs Jarvis took any pictures I'll upload them tomorrow!
