The kindergartners are really starting to grasp the concepts of number trees and equations! We do need to continue to work on reversals though :) We are really starting to dive into addition and subtraction and last week we played a simple game that you can play at home using an opaque bowl and any small objects like legos or buttons! Procedure: -Place some of the objects under the bowl -Add 1 or more to the bowl or subtract 1 or more from the bowl -Ask your partner, "How many are under the bowl now?" Sorry for the delay in posting this! Here are the pictures from when we went outside to draw the living and non-living things we saw - they all did such a great job! This week your kindergartner was introduced to "tapping out words" and CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant). Below is a little demonstration video I found on Youtube!

We visited our big buddies this afternoon to see their circuit boards and learn the rest of the Pirate Song - can your kindergartner remember the words?! "When I was one..." Happy Friday! This week's newsletter mentions number trees, something that was just introduced to the kindergartners this week with our new January calendar. Below I have included a link to the teacher guide to give you some background on number trees: bridges.mathlearningcenter.org/view/nc0-tg-5jan#12 When we return from vacation we will be starting Unit 3 of our math curriculum - Bikes & Bugs: Double, Add & Subtract

Last Thursday on our last day of school before break we received a note from the Gingerbread Man saying he'd run away and we needed to find him! We searched all over school, following clues until we finally found him and a treat he'd left for us :) it was a fun morning, did your student talk about it? Did you know Mrs. Jarvis does puppet shows? She performed The Gingerbread Man today for all three kindergartens! |
