As Open House was very well attended, many of you might have noticed our stamina posters for reading and writing. The kindergartners have been working very hard every day to build their stamina for reading to themselves (using the three ways to read a book: read the pictures, read the words, retell the story), and for writing, where we are learning that everyone is an author! Below you'll find some pictures of some very focused students! Ask your student about:
- Stamina
- Their four jobs during read to self
- Their four jobs during writing
- Self Talk
- Where they "focus their attention" during reading and writing
** Hopeful answers from your student for the above questions:
- Stamina - being able to do something for a long time without giving up or getting tired
- Read to self jobs: get started right away, stay in one spot, read quietly, read the whole time
- Writing jobs: get started right away, stay in one spot, work quietly, write the whole time
- Self Talk: reminding yourself in your head what to do e.g. "just keep writing, just keep writing, just keep writing"
- Focusing attention: on your own work!
